Bolang The Cat
Almost a year ago, Rega picked up this stray cat from the streets. He said he was going to take care of him and named it Bolang.

That darned cat, I hate him. The stupid miaws every night made me couldn’t sleep well each and every night. On some occasions he would crawl to my bed and sleep with me under my warm blanket. Everytime he did that I’d wake up and throw him out of the house, but he always managed to get back in *sigh*
And then we moved house when he wasn’t around.
It turned out the whole family missed him, and we actually went to the old house looking for him. Eventually we found him straying on the streets again, Rega and Tembem was very happy about it. Me too, just a little tho.

These little fellas are Kuro and Shiro, I got them when I had a trip with the gank to Bedugul. Cute eh? Bolang was the biggest threat to them back then, I thought cats eat rabbit, seriously. But it turned out he has no appetite for eating them until now, so today— one year after I bought Kuro and Shiro, they’re still safe and sound AND bigger.
Now Mom is having a little catering business, she bakes cakes and cook a lot everyday and Bolang is just a big big threat to the business, so we had to drive him away everytime he comes close to kitchen. I think it makes him sad and mad, because he hasn’t come back in a month :(
If you guys see him somewhere, please let him know we miss him yah?
*PS. Nevermind, just confirmed with Rega and he says Bolang comes back every morning and Bolang is married with two children now, white and black. Aw…

you’re an idiot and you’re the reason why feral cats are out of control in the world. you take on the responsibility of taking care of a cat and then you abandon the cat at your convenience. is this what you would do with your children? it doesn’t work this way fool. you learn more about people during tough times than you ever will when times are good, this story tells me you have no character. your story is not cute (as you seem to think it is) and certainly represents what is wrong with society’s treatment of cats. quite frankly, this blog post tells me more about your character than the cat. like i said, you’re an idiot and a prick.

oh one more thing, your family is bunch of assholes too. i hope they move when you’re not around too, maybe you’ll know what it feels like. by the way, bolang is not married. he’s a cat that you didn’t neuter that is now contributing to the feral cat problem. nice job ass.

Hello Wendell,
Oh wow, you’re angry.
Did you get to read the point when I said I was happy to have him back? We’re now taking care of Bolang, his wife and two children so that means I’m contributing to control the feral cats in the world, no? As for ‘is that what you would do with your children?’ question, I’d say no, of course, because I doubt that my children would be cats.
As for the moving house when he’s not around, it was simply because we could not find him. He was out perhaps playing poker with his friends. I think the ‘we actually went to the old house looking for him’ line explains that we do care about him and we want to have him back.
On the married thingie, well, I’m not a cat expert. When I say a cat’s got an opposite-sex partner and children I like to think that they’re a family because it’s cuter that way.
Listen, I know you think the post is not cute and I’m an idiot and yada yada, but please bear in mind that not everyone is a cat lover. I, for instance, am not a cat lover but right now I’m not thinking of abandoning Bolang and his family.

Please, this post was supposed to be cute but you just ruined it, Wendell. And please note too that I’m not calling you names even though I’m not happy with you calling me and my family names. Now that’s so not cute.

oh, btw, I’m a catlover. big time.
jadi gini. kucing yang udah gede emang suka pergi2 gak jelas, kadang balik kadang engga, tapi biasanya sih balik. so dont worry, mereka akan pulang kalo mereka kangen rumah. my cats do that. seriously.
April 20th, 2008 at 1:12 am
you know what? i’m not angry. it upsets me when people like you make commitments to cats and then break them. i feel very strongly about this. as for “we could not find him,” did your parents ever leave you somewhere because they couldn’t find you? maybe they did. that might explain why you do this to your cat.
it’s ok that you’re not a cat lover, not everyone is. what’s not ok is when you take on the responsibility of caring for one and then decide that you don’t feel like it anymore. if you were responsible, you would neuter the cat. this is the responsible thing to do. this is the debt that you owe society. this year, over five million cats will be euthanized in the united states alone and the main culprit is irresponsible owners that abandon and don’t neuter their cats. so while you think it’s “more cute” to refer to bolang as being married, what you don’t realize is that you and your family are contributing to a much larger problem than you realize.
bolang’s litter is not a family! don’t you get that?! more than likely, bolang’s litter will continue to procreate and the majority of his children will be destroyed. so yes, you are absolutely contributing to the feral cat problem. if you can’t see that, then you’re more ignorant than your post suggests.
what is so “cute” about this post? the post basically says you had a cat that you weren’t crazy about and you attempted to kick out of the house on numerous occasions. you even said that you were disappointed when the cat came home. you then indicate that your family moved but “he wasn’t around” so you left him there. even after finding him on the street after your family abandoned him, you were “just a little” happy to see him. you then say that bolang has two children (if he’s not neutred, he has a lot more than two children by the way) that are living on the street with him.
depending on what part of the world you live in, bolang and his family will be killed and used for their fur. over two million cats (mostly feral cats) are killed used for fur in the pacific rim every year. this is where you are from right? oh and most of those cats are killed by electrocution, strangulation or simply the pain of their fur being ripped from their bodies while they are still alive. indonesia, china and thailand have an enormous black market for cat fur. so your story isn’t cute and the fate of bolang and his “family” will be very grim if he’s living in the countries i mentioned before.
having a cat is not a “fickle” responsibility anima. either you take care of the cat and love it or you don’t. there’s no in between. your post is not cute and you’re not very amusing. the post says more about you than the cat. i get the sense from reading your comments above that you don’t have the mental capacity to understand that.

that wendell is just suck. I love cats. I LOVE CATS.
April 20th, 2008 at 1:24 am
okay, wendell. I got your point. But deep inside my heart, I know that anima, like you, loves cats. I can see it, because he have a busy life and still take care a cat among billions of stray cats here in Indonesia.
If you really care about cat that much, would you treat every God’s creature the same way you treat a cat?
I’m pretty sure you don’t. Because you loves cats. Just cats?
April 20th, 2008 at 1:26 am
for those who care, please read how you can help the feral cat situation in the world.

bodhi, i love all of god’s creatures. the unfortunate truth is that a lot of people (as indicted by the post on facekitty) don’t take the responsibility of cat care seriously. listen, i’m not saying anima is an idiot, i just don’t find the post very amusing. it’s sad actually.
April 20th, 2008 at 1:32 am
nevermind. Just chill, ok? :)
we all loves cats.
April 20th, 2008 at 8:59 am
wendell, it’s weird. I read anima’s post and got the point that he is, actually, love the cat.
hmm…
April 20th, 2008 at 9:02 am
and wendell, about the cat’s fur black market data. i don’t know. but as far as i now, the main consumer of this kinda fur is US and europe because the have winter.
April 20th, 2008 at 10:09 am
Hello Wendell,
so I take it this time the point is I’m not feeling committed to Bolang and if I were a responsible person I would neuter him.
Oh my, would you ‘neuter’ your own children because there’s just too many people in the world? Forget it, I didn’t just ask that.
Wendell, I live in Tabanan village, Indonesia, a place where cats are not being killed for their fur and a place where we don’t euthanize cats just because they’re too many of them. Neutering Bolang means literally removing his balls, correct? Wow, that’s cruel. And since it is okay for cats to populate here I guess I’ll just leave him that way. Here in Bali, I think there are almost no feral cats around because almost every cat has an owner.
And if Bolang continues to reproduce with his current partner or with any others, I will take care of the entire family and build a happy unneutered cat kingdom in my house. If I can’t handle all of them anymore, I’d find someone who can, I think I know just the right person (Mrs. Venus please raise your hand).

Such a (turned) long cat business.
Just want to ask, how did you come up with names. I had nine cats when I was a kid and we managed to find little cute names for each one of them (like yours), but now, I can’t even come up with cute little names for my daughter dolls. She took over the task.
Oh well, I guess the brain refuses to co-operate this time.
April 20th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
I didn’t, Rega came up with the names, he does that easily :p Maybe I’ll ask him later tonight

*raising hand(s)*
do not worry, wendell. bolang and his family, they’re in good hands. if they’re not, and this stupid kid decides to leave them to die, I’ll fly all the way to Bali and do whatever it takes to make sure that bolang is doing okay. happy now, wendell??
on another note, I sense something else. it’s like, you’re wasting your precious time complaining about things you dont really understand, and I can feel that you’re uh….unwanted here.
sorry, wendell. it must be my pills or something :D

hmmm, it’s impossible for me to have a discussion with you when the reality is that our cultures are diametrically opposed in so many ways.
in north america, we do not look upon neutering as a torturous event. as a matter of fact we know through experience that it will improve the cat’s quality of life as well as the quality of life for society as a whole. while feral cats may not be an issue in your small town anima, it’s well known fact that it is an issue in many other parts of indonesia.
your county has had more deaths related to the H5N1 virus (bird flu) than any other country in the world. feral cats represent the largest carrier of the H5N1 virus in indonesia. indonesia easily has the largest bird flu infected feral cat communities in entire world. the issue became such a problem that many governments (including my own in canada) issued travel advisories telling tourist to stay away from feral cats in indonesia.
so to answer your question about neutering my children, no i wouldn’t neuter my children. what kind of ludicrous comparison is this? i would however neuter a cat that might ultimately create offspring that might kill my child through the transmission of bird flu.
so while the feral cat situation in your town may be ok, your country may be forced with the same problem that north korea had last year. north korea euthanized hundreds of thousands of cats last year due to the fear of the transmission of bird flu to humans. north korea is now agressivlely implementing a plan that will trap, neuter and release many feral cats. your country will be faced with the same decision soon enough.
while your intentions to take care of bolang’s offspring are noble, they are hardly realistic. with the average cat litter ranging in size from 8 to 13 cats, i truly doubt you will be able to care for or find homes for all of bolang’s offspring. will you be able to find homes for bolang’s grand children as well? i doubt it. if you say “yes,” i would say that you math isn’t very good.
so i ask you, would you really be ingnorant enough to create an “un-neeuterd cat kindom” in your house while living in a country that by far has the greatest amount of bird flu deaths in the world? maybe there isn’t an issue of bird flu in your town but why risk it? how do you know for a fact that bolang (or his children) isn’t infected with the H5N1 right now? are you a doctor?
in my country, lawmakers are working hard to make it illegal to do exactly what you did to bolang. you abandoned a cat that ultimately created more cats. quite a risky move in indonesia if i may say so. (if you truly cared for the cat or understood the possible risk of bird flu transmission in your community, you would have made a better effort to find the cat before you moved. ) in my county, society has come to the realization that feral cats can represent an incedible burden on a region’s resources. based upon some of the misguided comments of the various posters i’ve read above, i can see that culturally, your people haven’t come to that realization yet. trust me, you will. it’s only a matter of time.
if you feel that it’s acceptable to have feral cats then that’s your issue. if you feel that bird flu transmission through the number one carrier of the H5N1 virus (feral cats) is not a problem, then who am i to say that you’re wrong?
you can always judge a country or group of people by the way they treat their animals. in my country, we do not kill and eat cats. whereas in your country it’s completely acceptable and popular in certain regions to eat cat meat. while you may think that the feral cat situation isn’t a problem in your town, the rest of the world knows that indonesia has more deaths related to bird flu H5N1 strand than any other country in the world. that’s a fact that you can verify for yourself. so if you can’t make the correlation that feral cats and deaths related to bird flu are connected (according to many of your own scientist in indonesia and the world health fund) there’s not much more that i can say.
based upon some of the comments i’ve read here, there is a clear and total misunderstanding of simple facts when related to cats. my values aren’t better than yours and your values aren’t better than mine. we are different though.
